Stevia is an incredibly sweet herb that has been used in other countries for many years as a sugar substitute. For hundreds of years, Stevia plants (Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni) have been grown and used in Paraguay and Brazil to sweeten herbal teas. The dried leaves of Stevia are about 12 to 40 times sweeter than sugar.
Stevia is reported to be rich in Nutrients and has been used in South America as a digestive aid and medicinaly for its antibacterial properties. Stevia leaves have also been used as an anti-cavity and plaque retardent.
Our Stevia plants are grown in large 4" Peat pots. Stevia plants will grow in almost any climate as long as it is given a well drained soil, fertilizer and a sunny location.
Stevia is a Perenial in warm tropical climates and is grown as an Annual in locations where temperatures go below freezing. Stevia plants can be brought indoors durring the winter months and taken back out into the garden as soon as the threat of frost is gone.
Harvest Stevia leaves and the stemms just prior to flowering for the highest stevioside quality and quantity. Stevia leaves can be dried outdoors or in a commercial drier.
